Please read Philippians 4:8.  We read there are 6 things the LORD desires for us to think on.  The will of God is an undulating series of mountains and valleys.  On the mountain we experience victory; in the valley we experience mistakes, wrong choices, and defeat.  We are instructed through this verse to look back and remember the victories; think on the many examples of how God delivered us from evil through His direct intervention and influence.  Our fallen nature easily reflects on the mistakes, wrong choices, and defeat.  When we look back on our past failures we are actually lifting them up above the LORD.   We exalt self and its name in pity and sorrow over what could have been.  Loosing victory is the result of thinking on our failures.  Rather, by thinking about the great deliverances and victories that the LORD has performed, we can lift up and exalt His Holy Name instead of ours.

Please read Deuteronomy 5:15 and 7:18.  We are instructed to think on His mighty hand and His stretched out arm, also, what He did to Pharoah and all Egypt. He tells us to think on the things HE has done and not dwell on our fleshly failures.  Look back, gives thanks, and praise Him that everything was executed just the way He ordained it!  Joshua was able to conquer the "ites" in Canaan's Land because he remembered what the LORD had done to Pharoah and all Egypt.  By thinking on the right things in his past, he was able to conquer and vanquish the enemy in his present.  As we reflect on the past year, 2017, be encouraged to push down the tendency to think on failures and "what could have been".  Instead, think of His mighty hand and stretched out arm that created a way where there was no way.  Think of the times when He intervened and showed Himself mighty to save.  Exalt HIM and HIS wonderful works!
